PEPA Job Evaluation Training for JE Committee Members

PEPA Job Evaluation Training for JE Committee Members

In March 2022, the Petroleum Exploration and Production Authority (PEPA) conducted an exceptional training program for several of its senior staff members. The primary aim of this program was to equip the participants with the skills required to be proficient job evaluators.

This training initiative adopted a workshop-style approach, with participants dedicating the majority of their time to evaluating and grading job descriptions using the Meirc Job Evaluation System. Upon the program’s completion, the participants emerged as certified job evaluators, armed with a profound understanding of the significance of job evaluation in ensuring internal consistency and equity.

The Meirc System stands as an analytical job evaluation methodology, rooted in the practice of deconstructing entire job roles into specific factors, such as job knowledge, communication, supervision, decision-making, physical exertion, and work environment, each linked to distinct levels (1, 2, 3, and so on). This system assesses jobs based on a cumulative points system, which is instrumental in determining the overall job grade.

PEPA places a substantial emphasis on analytical job evaluation, providing organizations with a more precise framework. Notably, a grading system founded on an analytical and gender-neutral method serves as a robust defense against claims of unequal pay by establishing an equitable grade and salary structure that applies across the entire organization.
